In 2005, the idea of launching a Dragon Boat was proposed by the Carolinas Asian-American Chamber of Commerce as a major Crossroads Charlotte community building initiative. Dragon Boat racing embraces and promotes competition, fair play, team building, community cohesiveness, culture and history.

Popularity of this annual regional event has been growing ever since. The Charlotte Dragon Boat Association has been invited to display a fully dressed Dragon Boat on the trial site of the U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Whitewater Slalom at the U.S. National Whitewater Center over three days, from 11am - 4pm each day, Friday April 25 - Sunday, April 27.

Promotional materials for the Beijing Summer Olympics games will also be on display. The U.S., which has secured 2008 Olympic berths in the men's and women's single kayak events, will be vying for slots in the men's single and double canoe. Canada, which has 2008 Olympic Games berths wrapped-up in the men's and women's single kayak, will also be vying for slots in the men's single and double canoes.

The 2008 Dragon Boat/Asian Festival is scheduled for June 7 at the Ramsey Creek Park in Lake Norman. For detail, please visit www.charlottedragonboat.com .
