‘Crossroads Charlotte: the Movie’ made its debut last night at six locations throughout Charlotte, NC. The film is a cinematic version of the four Crossroads Charlotte scenarios—Fortress Charlotte, Class Act, The Beat Goes On and Eye to Eye. Each scenario depicts a possible future for Charlotte, based upon statistical data. The movie version places fictional characters in each of these futures.

More than 1800 attendees were present at the six locations: Ballantyne Village Theatre, the Charlotte Museum of History, Davidson College, Epicenter Theatres, Johnson C. Smith University, and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Five of the locations were linked electronically with Johnson C. Smith functioning as the hub. While technical problems prevented attendees at the Epicentre location from being linked with the other five sites, over 350 at Epicentre still enjoyed the movie and lively discussions. Each location also had facilitators and a Crossroads poet present to guide discussion and manage programming at their particular site.

The evening began with a welcome by Foundation for the Carolinas President and CEO Michael Marsicano, which was followed by a poem entitled “Imagine Our Future, Act Today” performed in the round by the Crossroads Poets from each of the five linked locations.

Actors who appear in the film then presented brief versions of the Crossroads Scenarios, followed by a poetic response.

Following the film presentation, attendees were invited to stay for a brief discussion and facilitated dialogue. Finally, as guests left they were presented with a souvenir popcorn box stuffed with popcorn, a movie poster and a copy of the Crossroads film on DVD.

All six locations were filled to capacity, but those who could not attend are still able to view the films on the Crossroads Charlotte website. DVDs of the films are also available for use in a self-facilitated Crossroads discussion package entitled Crossroads Out of the Box.
