Thousands of miles, a continent and an ocean separate Brazil and India, two countries found on opposite corners of the world.

But for Charlotte residents, an open door is all that separates a trip from one country into the other.

Visitors to Brazas Brazilian Grill and Namaste Indian Cuisine will find two restaurants with two menus. And they will discover dishes authentic to the tastes of both cultures.

Mital Naick, is the owner of both Brazas and Namaste. Born in Leicester, England, Naick and his family moved to Charlotte and purchased Brazas with the intent to close it and reopen a restaurant that would only serve Indian cuisine.

But after one year, Naick and his family enjoyed operating Brazas so much that instead of closing the restaurant, they just added Namaste to it.

“We have one kitchen but we operate two dining rooms,” he said. “Brazas serves mostly meat, salt, pepper, garlic, and Namaste is Indian so there are hundreds of spices just for flavor.”

Brazas is well known for its meat cooked on a rotisserie and brought to tables in the dining room to be carved in front of guests. While, one of the most popular Indian dishes is Shahi Paneer Makhani, a homemade Indian cheese caked in creamy tomato sauce.

Naick says guests at both restaurants enjoy naan, a traditional Indian bread served with meals (seen in video).

Namaste has many Indian customers who are vegetarians; but the staff takes extra care to ensure the meals are kept kosher. Diners can order items off of Namaste’s menu in Brazas, but can only order food from the Indian restaurant in its dining room.

Prices at Brazas and Namaste range from $8.95-$16.95 for lunch buffets, and from $5.95 to $26.95 for dinner.
