Crossroads Charlotte

A Community Conversation on Affordable Housing

Event Details

Share: Share on Facebook Share on Twitter

"Souls of Our Neighbors" is a project developed by Mecklenburg Ministries, Crossroads Charlotte, and Temple Beth-El to present the concept of affordable housing in the city of Charlotte in human terms. Using interviews with six families it combats the stereotypes, racist undertones, and the "not in my neighborhood" responses that follow plans to offer working poor a boost toward self-sufficiency.

The PUUC Social Justice Council is proud to not only host a screening of this film, but to welcome our two discussion leaders, Brandi Williams, a PR Consultant, who has worked with Crossroads Charlotte on the "Get Real 2011" and "Know It To Work It" projects as well as "Souls of Our Neighbors", and Tom Bowers. Tom has been an active volunteer with the UU Church of Charlotte, Mixed Income Housing Coalition, Hospice and Palliative Care Charlotte Region, Democracy NC, NC Conservation Network, Mecklenburg Ministries Food for Thought, CharMeck Court Watch and Mecklenburg Criminal Justice Citizen's Advisory Committee. He regularly attends Senior Scholars and is a member of the Levine Jewish Community Center.
