Reverend Sonja Lee is the Founder and CEO of the Lionel Lee Jr. Center for Wellness (LLCW). She is responsible for the visioning and overall operation of the organization. The mission of this non-profit is to provide assistance to people with chronic illnesses who do not have adequate resources. The organization was founded in July 2006 and has served the LGBT community by assisting individuals and families with products and services such as medication, transportation to doctors' appointments and identifying resources that can provide ongoing assistance.
Along with providing services through the LLCW, Lee serves as a Manager in the Finance Department of the American Red Cross. Lee is a certified Six Sigma Black Belt and brings a wealth of knowledge in process improvement methodology and corporate infrastructure. Her role helps to assure the financial accountability and stewardship needed to provide disaster relief services to families and communities impacted by catastrophic events such as hurricane Katrina and the recent earthquake in Haiti.
Lee has spearheaded many efforts in the community with the goal of empowering people to take control of and improve their health and wellness. She serves in partnership with Presbyterian Hospital’s Congregational Health Promoters Program, the American Heart Association’s Search Your Heart Program, and Quail Hollow Middle School’s School Nurses office to promote health and wellness to the overall community.
Reverend Lee moved to Charlotte from her hometown of Washington, D.C., in 1999. She served on the staff of Unity Fellowship Church Charlotte (UFCC) under the direction of Bishop Tonyia Rawls for over nine years and is planning to attend seminary in the fall. She is a former member of the Health Ministries Association. She has served on the board as Treasurer of both the local UFC and the national Unity Fellowship Church Movement.
